About Freida Blostein

I specialize in using omics data and molecular epidemiology to better understand human health and disease. Omics data are comprehensive measurements of biological molecules, such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. These measurements can be used to create biomarkers of exposures and disease processes, and may represent mechanisms through which exposures cause health outcomes. I'm especially interested in understanding how modifiable risk factors interact with molecular mechanisms. I have experience working with longitudinal observational cohorts and large-scale biobanks linked to electronic health record data. I've worked on projects using transcriptomic, epigenomic, and genomic data, from both humans and their associated microbial communities. I completed a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and a postdoctoral fellowship in Genomic Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
