About Freja Dreesen
I graduated as a master in Biology at the University of Antwerp in 2007. The subject of my masterthesis was related to ecotoxicology and water pollution, I studied the effect of Acid Volatile Sulfides (AVS) on the availability of sediment-bound heavy metals. In 2008, I started a PhD in the research group Plant- and vegetation Ecology (PLECO). This 4-year research was focused on the effects of climate extremes on the (eco)physiology of plants. In March 2013, I defended my PhD and kept on working at the University of Antwerp until October 2013. During my studies and PhD research, I performed field work in Belgium, Tanzania, Poland and Iceland. My fields of interest are environmental pollution, ecology, climate change, nature conservation and sustainability.
