He practices with an attitude of experimentation and research; this originality is evident in his works, and has earned him several high profile design recognitions, including the prestigious ‘20 under 45’ accolade accorded by Singapore’s Urban and Redevelopment Authority in 2010. Design Research: Alongside commissioned projects, Frven also spearheads numerous design research initiatives in the London studio. “SystematiCities” and WellSkyscrapers” are the current explorations. In 2014, ‘project 2050’, which relates to ‘future mega-dense cities’ and its ‘super-mixed use typologies’, was presented as a public lecture at the World Architectural Festival. Urbanist: He is a thought leader in urban cities’ future trends and the topic of human-centric and wellbeing design, and champions the motto of “making a difference through design”. Industry Roles: Frven’s professional practice is complemented by his involvement, and advisory roles in several professional and institutional bodies during his practise years in Singapore. This ethos forms the basis of his work, handling much of the professional services’ management and steering the studio to operate as a design-driven enterprise. Teaching: In the academic realm, he is a visiting tutor and critic at the Architecture School, National University of Singapore, as well as Harvard Graduate School of Design. Publications: Frven has authored and edited numerous publications, of which the four seminal books are “Housing People”, “1degNorth”, “Crafting Public Realms” and “project 2050”. In addition to these, Frven has also contributed an essay which was published alongside the exhibition titled Singapores” held at Paris’ city hall in the summer of 2015.
