About Fumiko Hoeft
Dr. Hoeft’s current research program focuses on neurobiological mechanisms of brain maturation, typical and atypical language and reading acquisition (e.g. dyslexia), and more translational and educationally relevant concepts such motivation and resilience. She integrates multimodal neuroimaging, cognitive, genetic and environmental data using machine learning algorithms and network analyses. Recent honors include the Norman Geschwind Memorial Lectureship from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and Transforming Education through Neuroscience from Learning & the Brain Foundation, and International Mind Brain & Education Society (IMBES). She has published over 100 articles in journals such as the Proceedings for the National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Neuroscience. Hoeft has delivered over 120 lectures including remarks at The White House, and keynotes at IMBES. Her work has been covered in media such as The New York Times, NPR, CNN and the New Yorker. Fumiko Hoeft MD PhD is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Weill Institute for Neurosciences, Executive Director of CA Precision Learning Center (PrecL.org), Deputy Director of the Dyslexia Center, Director of the UCSF Hoeft Laboratory for Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience (brainLENS.org), Scientist at Haskins Labs, and Scientific Advisor/Board Member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Center for Childhood Creativity (BADM’s She received research training at Harvard, UCLA, Caltech and Stanford.
