About Gabriel Alfaro

As an Assistant Professor and Researcher at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, I explore how education evolves in response to an increasingly multilingual, digital, and ethically complex world. My work focuses on higher education mobility, ethics, social and emotional learning, digital education, and intercultural competence. Through my teaching and research, I aim to empower students to become critical thinkers and responsible global and digital citizens, equipped to navigate diverse cultural contexts with empathy, adaptability, and integrity. Current research focuses on higher education mobility, pre-bunking and disinformation, social-emotional learning, and ethical behavior in collaboration with such institutions as Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero and the University of Cambridge. Teaching Activities: Dedicated to shaping the educational landscape with expertise in Humanities, Education Policy, Ethics, Pedagogy, Curriculum Design and Innovation, Digital Life and Technology, and Higher Education Capacity Building. I teach various courses related to these areas both in English and Spanish, with experience in distance education and MOOCs. Teaching & Higher Education Leadership: With nearly a decade of experience in higher education, I teach Ethics, Social & Emotional Development, Pedagogy, Digital Technology in Education, and Global Competence in both English & Spanish. My passion lies in curriculum innovation and policy reform, ensuring that higher education remains inclusive, adaptable, innovative and relevant. Beyond Academia: I have worked extensively in program evaluation, student mobility, and bilingual/multilingual education. My goal is to bridge research and practice, fostering transformative learning experiences that prepare students for an interconnected world. I’m open to collaborations in higher education policy, digital learning, and ethics research.
