About Gabriel Gras 葛佩利

Industrial, European and International affair officer for a top notch biotechnology research institute. Member of the executive committee of the Biosciences and Biotechnologies Institute of Aix-Marseilles since march 2018 (CEA - BIAM: 150+ scientific staff publishing 60+ peer reviewed papers with high impact factors each year) I promote collaboration and exchange with industrial companies (licencing, research agreements, creation of startups) and international network for excellent science in the fields of bioenergy (hydrogen, 3rd generation biofuels, photosynthesis), environmental microbiology and vegetal biology (biocontrol, depollution, remediation). I was initially involved in virology research as a laboratory head in the French Atomic Energy Commission, and contributed 60 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals (1986 – 2012). In the meantime I was in charge of safety and security for our division (1995 - 2008). I acted project manager for the building and manager for operation and maintenance of BSL3 laboratories (total sqft). As a technical expert on biosafety and biocontainment for the European commission within the framework of the Instrument for Stability (2008 - 2011), I contributed fact-finding missions and prospective views on biosafety and biosecurity in third party countries. From 2012 to 2017, I was in charge of the implementation of the 2004 intergovernmental agreement on French-Chinese cooperation for the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, within the Science Division of the Embassy of France to China. In this position, I followed the construction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences BSL4 in Wuhan and provided technical assistance to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but also promoted French-Chinese research cooperation on infectious diseases. In 2017, I founded and acted CEO for GOPURA China, a company that designs and manages projects of laboratories and controlled atmosphere areas.
