About Gabriel Reed

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, I am currently pursuing a PhD in Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Art Theory from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. Through my formal arts education, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2007 and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Bowling Green State University in 2012. As a long-term Resident Artist of Clay Associates in San Diego, California, I have exhibited nationally and internationally and been actively involved in the development of my own artistic work and the development of arts programs in the community. I facilitated and supported arts programs at the The San Diego Children’s Museum and the California Institute for Arts Education and also founded the ceramic arts program at the The San Diego Art Department. Following my creative passion around the world, I have been blessed to study at the International Ceramic Studio in Kecskemét, Hungary, work with the Creativiti Western Arts & Crafts Center in Fiji, and complete a 2-year Ceramic Residency in Rokkasho, Aomori while living and teaching in Northern Japan with the JET Programme. A tenacious curiosity and love of creative process has fueled my lifelong journey as a professional artist, community activist, and educator, and serves well my current role as Director of Voluntourism for the non-profit educational travel and community development organization Via International.
