About Gale Boyd

I currently work with the EPA ENERGY STAR team of investigators to coordinate energy technology opportunity assessment reports with results obtained from the plant level analysis to develop Energy Performance Indicators, a plant level energy benchmarking tool. Sectors have included steel, cement, wet corn refining, automobile assembly, pharmaceuticals, glass, food processing, paper industries, and many others. Past research has included microeconomic modeling of industrial energy demand, emissions, and productivity; forecasting activity and energy demand in various economic sectors; and integrating the above analyses into models of the energy market. This previous work has generated more than 100 journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and technical reports. I am the former director of the Triangle Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC) and was a co-founder of the Chicago FSRDC. I have been an active research user of the Census Bureau Economic micro data for almost 30 years. Since 1995, I have been a principal investigator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Atmospheric Programs, conducting research on policy actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Policy, analyzing industrial voluntary action programs. Prior to that I supported the National Acid Precipitation Assessment and several National Energy Policy Plans as well as other energy/environmental studies for DOE, EPA and others.
