About Gareth Simpson

Gareth is WSP’s national executive for mine closure in Australia. He leads a dynamic team of closure planners, engineers, and project managers in executing, inter alia, closure studies, PMLU assessments, closure cost estimating, landform and cover designs, erosion analyses, tailings facility closure, hydrogeology, and other technical studies. Gareth has actively participated in and led integrated engineering and environmental projects for mines, quarries, power stations, and other industries since Before that, he was engaged in the agricultural and water resources sectors. Gareth has managed multiple projects from the opportunity phase to conceptual/OoM studies, pre-feasibility studies (A&B), feasibility studies, detailed designs, tender documentation, and execution/site supervision. He is PMP certified. He has also led and participated in various research projects—his PhD focused on integrated resource planning, management, and security. His core skills include- Mine/Asset/Quarry/Industry Closure & Transition Planner/Engineer - Study Manager: OoM/Concept, PFS-A/IPS, PFS-B, FS - Technical/academic writing and reviewing - Project Management Professional (PMP)- Technical inputs into engineering designs, water balances, landform (rehabilitation) design, and trade-off studies - Data processing and visualisation - Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus & sustainability researcher (PhD)
