About Garret Shultz

I am a Civil Engineering graduate from Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the private, public, and military sectors, allowing me to develop a well-rounded skill set in the field of civil engineering. I began my career as a Horizontal Construction Officer with the 1033rd ESC, 276th EN BN, where I transitioned into the Executive Officer (XO) role. During my time at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) in the summer of 2023, I supported battalion-sized mobility, counter-mobility, and sustainment operations. These experiences honed my leadership abilities and provided me with a solid foundation in military engineering operations. In the private sector, I worked as a structural engineer with a focus on agricultural cost-share projects, residential construction, and low-rise commercial development. This role allowed me to apply engineering principles to real-world projects and further expand my technical expertise. Currently, in the public sector, I lead a small team within Augusta County’s Department of Community Development. The engineering division plays a critical role in supporting county operations, reviewing plans from private firms, overseeing local county projects, and enforcing ordinances in accordance with Virginia's environmental laws. Through these diverse roles, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles and their application across various contexts. I am eager to continue applying my skills and knowledge to contribute to impactful projects and further my professional growth.
