Background
About Garrett Mallery
After 3 years of managing heavy civil projects on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Lanai, Garrett shifted his focus to the consulting side of engineering. Six (6) years of heavy civil project management across Texas, California, Hawaii, Ontario, and Nova Scotia have emphasized the keys to project success: responsible design, constructability, project planning, budget tracking, and safety. Keeping these factors in mind, collaboration becomes the key driver of a job. A project's success is driven by its people. It is the collective effort of the project team - from design engineers to operators/laborers - that truly matters. Prior to moving back to his hometown of Halifax, Garrett’s previous focus was the reconstruct of the LNY Airport Runway 3-21. During this time, Garrett obtained his FAA Private Pilot's License, and completed his goal of personally landing a plane on the very same runway he and his team built. A dean's scholar at Queen's University, Garrett was elected to represent Queen's University at the 2019 Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Conference in the Capstone Design project for his structural design of a Toronto hospital. Years later, Garrett played a pivotal roll as the lead civil designer / Project Manager for the QEII Hospital Expansion in Halifax NS. Garrett completed an undergraduate thesis in 2018/19 - building an AutoCAD/ABAQUS generated Finite Element Model (FEM) of a CN railway bridge to help determine if rehabilitation was needed to account for an increase in axial loading. The output from this model was subsequently compared to data derived from fiber optic sensors. CRITICAL SKILLS • Engineering Design • Finite Element Analysis (FEA). • Project Planning & Scheduling • Project Risk & Quality Management • Construction Management
