Background
About Garry Atkinson
Garry Atkinson is a passionate advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and a strong champion of gender equality in particular. Since graduating in 2015 from Western University with an Honours BA and Master’s degree in Women’s Studies & Feminist Research, Garry served as a coordinator for Huron and Perth County’s Violence Against Women Coordinating Committees; funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services in Ontario. Throughout his five year position, Garry collaborated with multiple services such as local police, the OPP, women’s shelters, second stage housing, and Victim Services to develop, support, and build campaigns dedicated to raising awareness about violence against women. Garry created and facilitated presentations at local high schools about consent and dating violence, and worked with various organizations to train employees about workplace violence and harassment. Garry also spent three years with the Supervised Access Program as a visit monitor, helping to provide a safe environment for children to visit their non-custodial parents. In February of 2020, Garry joined the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) as a Research & Analytics Manager, and continues in the position today. WXN is a national organization that annually celebrates Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100, recognizing the incredible achievements of women across the country - and produces a wide variety of events, platforms, and research on and for women in the workforce, at all stages of their careers. In his new role, Garry leads important research on board diversity and the representation of women in executive level positions, while supporting WXN’s countless and dynamic events that reach all over the world. Garry continues to educate himself in the field, and has earned multiple certificates from organizations such as the Center for Research and Education on Violence Against Women, Status of Women Canada, and UN Women, while always striving to learn from the exceptional feminists within his network.
