About Gary Autet

With over 48 years in the mining industry, I bring deep, hands-on expertise in shaft sinking, grouting, and project execution across both national and international operations. I currently serve as a Senior Consultant with Thyssen Mining, supporting complex projects from concept through to completion. Throughout my career, I’ve led shaft sinking operations from design to final commissioning—achieving record sinking rates and maintaining a perfect safety record with zero lost-time accidents. I believe safety and productivity are not opposing forces but essential partners in every successful project. My background includes extensive experience in high-volume water grouting, where I managed a joint venture grouting division for TMCC. In recent years, I’ve focused on early-stage project work—tendering, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, sinking methodology development, and shaft equipment design. Most recently, I was seconded to Byrnecut Australia, where I served as design lead on an innovative new sinking stage before stepping into the role of Master Sinker on site. I’m passionate about advancing safe, efficient practices in shaft sinking and underground development, and I continue to contribute technical leadership and strategic insight to projects that shape the future of the mining industry
