About Gary Barter

I am a veteran of the U.S. NAVY with over 25 years of customer service, in several fields, and have earned my Bachelor of Science in Counseling (with an Emphasis on Mental Health and Substance Abuse) and my Master of Science in Psychology program (with an Emphasis on Forensic Psychology). I have worked in the mental health/Substance field since August 2018. My professional experience includes Crisis call Centers, including Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS Team), working directly with clients in crisis, and evaluating and accessing clients for needed services. Being a Certified MHPS and RSPS as a Peer, Recovery Coach, and Client Monitor, has helped me refine these skills. I have over four years of hands-on experience in Program building and research. I have worked with those incarcerated, substance-dependent, and homeless veterans. This has allowed me to develop and refine my communication and problem-solving skills, enabling me to effectively resolve issues. I believe that to use the gifts we have been given for the greater good is the highest honor we can attain, Giving back that which was so freely given to me.
