Background
About Gary Jordan
My responsibility as a NASA Public Affairs Manager is to share the importance of human spaceflight enabling scientific research, exploration and discovery with the world. We are just beginning an exciting era of human spaceflight. Astronauts have returned to launching from American soil, this time on new commercial vehicles owned and operated by American companies. We’re building a robust economy low-Earth orbit and enabling private industry to provide transportation, destinations and services for human spaceflight, with the hope that NASA will be just one of many customers. And we’re close to returning humans to the surface of the Moon, this time in a sustainable way so we can refine how to live and work on another celestial body, conduct revolutionary science, and prepare for human operations on Mars. Within NASA’s Public Affairs Office (PAO), my primary responsibility is to empower the talented professionals that communicate the important role of human spaceflight for the benefit of humanity and the exploration of the solar system. I also lead the “Houston We Have a Podcast” team to create weekly audio content that expands across all human spaceflight disciplines and programs. I designed and created “Houston We Have a Podcast” in 2017, and it is now the agency’s #1 podcast. My career at NASA has allowed me to explore and strengthen a diverse set of communication skills that I use today, including: leadership, messaging and talking points; crisis communications; podcasting; producing and hosting live broadcasts; producing multimedia content; media relations; and writing/editing features and press releases. My previous roles have allowed me to develop skills in event planning, internal communications, speaking and presentations, graphic design, and student mentorship. I’d love to connect to share my experiences and learn more about yours!
