About Gary McLean

I’m an experienced scientist with a strong history of success leading research in viral vaccines and immunology, backed by an exhaustive list of peer-reviewed publications, industry collaborations, grant supports, patent filling, book chapter contribution, and oral presentations. Over the years, I’ve successfully guided biomedical innovation, shaped experimental design and analysis, and led the publication of scientific papers in line with industry-specific vaccine development strategy. My expertise involves Molecular Immunology, Respiratory Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Rhinovirus Infections, Clinical Research & Trials, Virology, Pathology, Epidemiology, Vaccinology, mRNA Techniques, Antibodies, as well as the recent SARS-CoV-2 Mutations and Variants. I’ve also been invited to share my expert opinion on over 150 radio, television, print, and online interviews in relation to COVID-19 in the last two years. As Professor of Molecular Immunology at LMU, I’ve proven my academic leadership in both teaching and research, focused on designing and delivering excellent education and practical knowledge as part of BSc, MSc, and PhD programmes. Apart from acting as Principal Investigator, I’ve facilitated crucial funding efforts and industry partnerships that drive high-quality research outputs. Not to mention, I excel at driving continuous process improvement, cross-functional collaboration, efficient time/resource management, and possess a positive can-do attitude for leading and inspiring others, while being decisive in delivering biomedical scientific breakthroughs.
