About Gary Parnell

I have over 20 years experience working in the IT industry, of which 12 years has been spent in the resources and utilities sector. Over this period I have held senior leadership positions across a number of large organisations to ensure the successful delivery of major programs of work. I have held senior roles with BHP Billiton, INPEX, Water Corporation and SAP and at the University of Western Australia. I have extensive experience overseeing the delivery of numerous large and business critical projects including large ERP Financial systems which has included fiscal responsibility for multi-million dollar delivery budgets, forecasting and planning. I have had great success in bringing together diverse and geographically spread project teams and vendors partners to ensure successful achievement of business and technology outcomes. Open communication, transparency and early troubleshooting are key characteristics of my leadership style. I am an advocate for strong project governance and set high quality standards for my teams. I aim to build a culture that is inclusive and strengthened by high performing teams that are empowered to innovate, trusted to self-manage and work collaboratively with our customers to deliver agreed results. I maintain a very value driven focus with a commercial mind-set. I am able to make the hard calls and decisions with respect to negotiating complex situations, prioritising initiatives, onboarding and offboarding resources, approving budgets or advising of cutbacks. I work with numerous stakeholders, lead multiple programs with large teams, manage numerous integrated budgets, forecasts and plans across a large portfolio of work which has been fundamental to my success in being able to optimise resource planning, generate strong financial results and drive performance levels to achieve value led outcomes for our customers. I work to ensure strong and open stakeholder and customer relationships where expectations are agreed, realistic and achievable. I have forged an extensive network of strategic partnerships with key service providers which I leverage to deliver strategic prioritised outcomes in an often cost constrained environment. As a people leader, investing in people and capability to support high performance in a safe and sustainable way is a foremost consideration, as well as personal goal.
