About Gary Paul Wright

My career was founded within Theatre, Events and Live Entertainment spending many years working with some of the worlds renowned production companies to learn my craft. My focus was towards technical design, automation and stage engineering followed by technical management, production management and project management. Having learnt many skills within the industry delivering highly complex productions I directed my focus towards the built environment and explored where the skills I learnt within the production industry can help influence the design and delivery of production environments. I bring clients a fresh and focused experience towards the design and delivery of performance venues, performance architecture and performance technology. Working closely with the end user to establish the success criteria of a project and how it can be best delivered by the best teams. I have spent the past 10 years leading ground-breaking projects such as The YARD at Chicago Shakespeare Company, The Scarlet and Grey Stage at the Park Avenue Armouries New York, The Roundhouse in Bethesda, The Boulevard in Soho and many more. In 2017 I formed Charcoalblue’s Turnkey Service which takes a performance venue from conception through construction to curtain-up and in 2021 I was appointed as Founding Director of Charcoalblue Experience working to bring experience design and delivery within the urban environment. I believe in the art of the possible – nothing is insurmountable and I relish the challenges that highly creative and complex buildings present and how we build a plan together to make it happen. I am passionate about my work and the social and economic impact that the creative arts brings to communities and how experience design can elevate guest experiences and end user engagement - if I am able to play just a minor role in the generation of artistic creation through spaces and places I am truly grateful!
