Background
About Gary Reynolds
I am currently studying at Durham University on an ESRC funded scholarship in the Department of Sociology. My research focusses on providing narratives of young men with care experience who are serving sentences in prison who have been involved in county lines drug operations. The aim is to explore their journeys into county lines involvement and to develop an understanding of how their experience of being in the care system played a role in their experiences of drug market involvement/criminal exploitation. This research follows on from my MA (by research) degree at the University of Central Lancashire where I achieved a pass without amendments at the beginning of 2021. Prior to this, I graduated with a first class honours degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Central Lancashire in 2018 where I was also recognised by the Dean of the university and I was placed on the Dean's list for outstanding achievement. Other research areas of particular interest include: organised crime and mafia studies; the mobility of mafia and organised crime groups; illicit drug markets and drug trafficking; the spatial mobility of street level drug suppliers and organised drug supply in the UK; comparative youth justice. I currently work as a teaching associate at the University of Cumbria. I am also a Visiting Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Winchester and an Associate Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Central Lancashire. Previously, I worked with individuals faced with homelessness and drug and alcohol addiction and who are at risk of mental health issues and re-offending in Blackpool. I have also worked for five years as an independent adoption panel member for Cumbria County Council Children's Services. Alongside this I volunteered for Young Addaction as a young person's drug and alcohol worker and Lancashire youth offending team on the referral order panel.
