About Gary Schneider

Servied as the Director of Public Works to the Town of Groton, Connecticut from 1990 to 2019, I havd provided guidance to the Town Manager, appointed members of local Boards and Commissions and the elected officials on Public Works issues for the largest town in southeastern Connecticut. The Director is a department head position that serves as a member of the Town of Groton’s management team working closely with other town, state and federal agencies in the principal areas of Roads and Streets, Facility Maintenance, Fleet Operations, Municipal Engineering, Solid Waste/Transfer Station, Waste Water Treatment and Capital Construction. The Director implements policy as adopted by the Town Council and sets the Departmental goals and vision; prepares the annual department budget of $16+ million for the Town Manager and implements it. The Director establishes and maintains positive relationships with residents, town staff and the elected officials and must be confident in public speaking including a televised format. Worked on the next phase of school renovations, a $184 million 3 school project to be completed in the summer of 2021 Also, I have the pleasure to serve as; 1. Member of Emergency Support Function 3 (Public Works and Engineering), for the State of Connecticut, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Region 4, 2. Member, Board of Directors, Executive Committee of the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority. Member, American Public Works Association, Emergency Management Committee 4. Member, Connecticut Council of Municipalities, Committee on Environmental Management Currently the Director of Public Works for the Town of Waterford, CT performing many of the same duties. I report to the First Selectman, an elected 4 year town position.
