About Gary Simonds

Gary Simonds is an entertaining and inspiring public speaker, educator, mentor, and award-winning author. He has spent a career in the care of others as a top neurosurgeon and as a teacher of all levels of learners including other neurosurgeons, residents, medical students, and undergraduates. He advises and mentors individuals interested in healthcare careers and enjoys working with and speaking to groups of any size on a host of topics from neuroscience, to wellness, to medical socioeconomics, to ethics, to the interface of science and religion. He has written three books on burnout and resilience and a medical/psychological thriller novel with a paranormal twist. Gary was the Founding Chief of Neurosurgery and Residency Program Director at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Carilion Clinic He is a Professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience. In addition to his MD, he holds a Masters in Healthcare Deliver Science from Dartmouth College He is a content provider/teacher at MedMastery international CME company and a blogger for Psychology Today Online. He consults on optimizing educational experiences for all levels of learners and training experiences for medical residency programs and on building resilience in individuals and groups of healthcare providers.
