About Gary Varnum

I first entered the tech space as a web designer, building websites using HTML tables. I soon had to learn some server-side coding using ColdFusion to keep the company programmers from wanting to strangle me, and found it very interesting building web applications and dynamic websites. Soon I had a business creating custom sales lead and contact management systems for various clients, and was eventually hired as the web designer and front end developer for a marketing company. I wore several hats as I worked with marketing, IT and upper management to upgrade the corporate web presence and provide web applications for clients and internal staff. We created some very unique marketing services for real estate agents, including print-on-demand reports and postcards. I left the company during the pandemic when there was a business downturn, and returned to freelancing. Realizing the modern web requires modern frameworks and technology, I have worked to improve my skillset by learning new frameworks and using new tools. I recently completed a 14-week Web Developer Boot Camp through devCodeCamp that focused on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js). I have always believed every challenge has a solution, and finding those solutions is my forte'. Part of that is due to a work ethic instilled by my father, and part is a drive to focus on a mission and complete it as I learned to do for 10 years in the US Air Force.
