About Gavan Cooke

I am a Science Teacher at Heathfield International School, where I teach science to high school students and design, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons to suit their individual needs. I have over 20 years of experience as an educator in secondary and higher education, with UK QTS/PGCE and a PhD in Behavioural Ecology. I am passionate about problem-based and experiential learning, providing a wide range of educational experiences well above and beyond the UK curriculum. I am also a designated Safeguarding Lead for the secondary school, and I have expertise in whole-school data analysis, using my professional skills in applied statistics to improve student welfare and performance. I have contributed to various aspects of school development, such as policies, strategies, events, and surveys. I have a strong research background, with 26 peer-reviewed publications and multiple external grants. I have also created and directed an international citizen science project, engaging thousands of people in collecting and sharing data on wild cephalopods. I believe in making a positive difference in young people's lives and inspiring them to become lifelong learners.
