About Gavin Brott

After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Art Studio, ceramics and sculpture. I moved to Denver Colorado where I worked as a landscaper and sprinkler installer, of course that didn’t last long with winters lasting more than six months of the year! But I have always loved nature and creating landscapes, large or small! So I applied for other positions that were available in the area at that time. I got an offer from a structural steel company, where I created foundations, columns, walls, floors, bridges with different sized and shaped rebar steel! I once help lay all the the steel mesh in a square foot Kmart distribution center. It was storage facility in the north east part of Denver! It took nearly four months! After accessing my career and looking at what I truly wanted for myself. As you can tell, I have always liked working with my hands! I decided to go back to school and art…GIA as I researched was the best choice! And at the time was located in Santa Monica, so I moved back to California. This experience with different cultures, backgrounds and possibilities, changed my life for ever! After graduation as a graduate jeweler gemologist. I work in Beverly Hills for a small color stone dealer company! This start up was my first job in the jewelry industry but it opened the door and my eyes into a field that was exciting and has many facet’s to it! I was secretary, wax caver and stone setter during my time a Sapphire Gem Company, Inc. But after a few years I left for something better. I moved to Lake Havasu Arizona to work for a small mom and pop jewelry store, Edgardo Jewelers Inc. Under the expertise of a Master Jeweler and watch maker. I expanded my skills and created one of a kind pieces of jewelry for many clients. I was the main goldsmith for repair, fabricating, wax carving, casting on site! It was GIA’s solid foundation that aloud me to grow into a Master Goldsmith…but with all of this I knew I still had more to give so after a few years in the retail sector I got the call! There was a jewelry related position in Carlsbad California as a classroom technician at the GIA headquarters! It was another foot in the door moment…so after finding someone to relieve me of my current position. I moved back to California in and the rest is history! My journey as Classroom Technician, JMA Instructor, R&D Subject Specialist and Production Subject Specialist has been hard but very rewarding to give back to the future of this industry is just the best!
