About Gavin Chen

Currently in Singapore Land Authority (SLA) as a Principal Manager, driving innovative geospatial technology exploration and application including Geospatial Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, developing and operating whole-of-government geospatial data platforms to support many agencies, private sectors, and general public. Prior joining SLA, I was a technical manager with the focus on exploring and assessing commercial and open source big data technologies for smart cities and smart nation initiatives. Before IDA, I was a research scientist with the Cloud & Security Lab, HP Labs Singapore, where my work on building an intelligent recommendation engine for optimized cloud service selection has been selected for presentation at HP Technical Conference because of its technical innovation and commercialization impact. When I was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Formal Method Group, National University of Singapore (NUS), I helped industry MNC discover and correct subtle flaws from its commercial software products (event-based modeling, state charts and flow graphs supported, with 1 million users) using model checking techniques. Throughout my PhD study, I created a verification framework for real-time systems based on theorem proving techniques. My framework identified previously unknown defeats of interval-based theorems published over 12 years, and had been applied to industry software products (globally leading role in model-based design for embedded systems). These significant achievements had made me receive the Dean’s Graduate Research Excellence Award in 2009, from School of Computing, NUS.
