About Gavin Donaghy

I am an archaeologist with over 20 years of experience in the field. I started working in commercial archaeology in 2002 with Northern Archaeological Consultancy, starting as a general operative. I worked my way up through the ranks to become a licenced archaeological site director in 2009. I left NAC in 2011 where I started my own company Irish Archaeological Research where we developed community and heritage projects across Northern Ireland. We focused on education and event-based outreach and were successfully awarded a two-year contract with the Saint Patrick Centre to create public outreach events and manage educational outreach programmes. In 2015 I joined IAC in their Belfast office where I directed archaeological excavation and worked as a surveyor recording archaeological remains across the country. I rejoined Nothern Archaeological Consultancy in 2016 as a senior site director managing archaeological excavations and surveying. I developed the use of drone photogrammetry and aerial photography for the company at that time as well. I started Access Heritage in 2021 and work as a Company Director. Access Heritage had two roles, providing public outreach and digital content for community groups and heritage organisations as well as providing archaeological consultation to the commercial sector. My role is both developing the technological heritage projects and project managing the commercial programmes. The technological heritage projects include drone surveys and archaeological reconstructions as well as 360 virtual tours and story mapping projects, including web development and media creation. In the commercial archaeology sector, I develop solutions for large and small-scale development projects including providing Archaeological Impact Assessments, Archaeological Programmes of Works, Archaeological and Cultural Assessments, Licence applications, Archaeological Monitoring and Excavation. I Have experience in both small-scale developments and large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects and can mitigate for most archaeological conditions.
