About Gavin Hammel

I have always had a passion for information and evidence-based decision-making and public policy. I pursued this passion with my education, studying history at the undergraduate and graduate levels and honing my quantitative and qualitative research skills in the Research Analyst Program at Georgian College. I followed my interest in research into a career as a research consultant, analyst and archivist. I have worked in both the public and private sectors, providing detailed reports and briefing materials to senior leaders and decision-makers to help inform policy. Currently, I am using my skills to provide research and analysis to Georgian College. I am always on the lookout for new opportunities to make full use of my analytical and project management skills in the service of evidence-based problem solving and policy development. When I am not working on research projects at work or school, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing games, going on day trips and just hanging out. I am also a bit of a news junkie and am always trying to keep up with the latest developments on the local, national and international scenes. Specialized skills include: Research experience: Analytic dashboard design, data model construction, statistical analysis, survey design and analysis, online discussion board design, in-depth interviews, qualitative research, demographic data analysis, report and briefing materials writing, archival research, secondary literature review, etc. Work skills: Project management, team leadership, stakeholder management, personnel management, report and briefing note writing, confidential information handling, oral and written communication skills, etc. Computer skills: Database management (Access, Sage, InMagic, PastPerfect, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SPSS, R, quantitative and qualitative research tools (Tableau, NVivo, Power BI, IBM Watson Analytics, etc.).
