About Gavin Homan

Hello my name is Gavin. I am a graduate from Waterford Institute of Technology with both a Higher Certificate in Hospitality Studies and a BA degree in Hospitality Management. During my college years I had 2 placements. My first was a 3 month placement in the Intercontinental Hotel Ballsbridge where I worked as a waiter in the lobby lounge. My responsibilities were manual handling, cash handling, guest interaction and fine dining service. My second placement was in the Shelbourne Hotel Dublin working as a waiter in the Saddle Room restaurant. I work both the breakfast and dinner shifts during my time here along with private dining for very high clientele guests. Upon completing my placement I was invited to extend my contract with the hotel on a part time basis due to college and worked in the restaurant for 2 years. Upon graduating from college with a 2.1 degree in Hospitality Management I was straight into preparing for the interview process for the Marriott Voyager Manager in Training Program. After an interview and presentation I was 1 of 2 candidates chosen from 10 to do the program. The program entailed multiple interdepartmental changes within the hotel as both an employee and management level. I worked in banquets, engineering, guest relations and revenue to list a few. Throughout out this department I made great connections throughout meeting other members of the voyager programme from the UK and Ireland. I also took part in trainings throughout the program within each department with an exam and questionnaires to be completed at the end of each one. One of the key trainings I took part in was The Foundations of Leadership where I learned how to make decisions as a manager, complaint handling, workplace behaviour and leading a team. My biggest passion is golf. I play outta Killiney Golf Club and have represented the club on many occasions. My biggest honour from the club was being named Junior Captain in 2014. This role gave me a lot of responsibility in looking after all juniors in the club and competition. I have also represented the club as junior captain outside the golf club in competition which included meeting other members from different golf clubs and giving speeches. In all roles and responsibilities I have carried out in my life thus far I have given it 100% of my attention and efforts along with no job was ever to much or hassle when asked to do it which included being called in on my days off to work.
