About Gavin Nicholson

First and foremost, I am an engineer. Ever since I laid my first Duplo blocks and built dams in streams, I have been obsessed with engineering and tinkering with the world around me. Electrical Building Services provides me with a never-ending series of puzzles that I am avidly engaged in finding the solution for. I believe that the right building services can transform a space and improve the lives of people using it.I recently graduated from Heriot-Watt University where I gained knowledge of the necessities for building services and how we humans interact with them. During my time at university, I reached the international final of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Global Grand Challenge. As one of only 5 UK teams qualifying for the international final, I take great pride in this achievement. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this competition and how much I learnt about the business side of engineering, and the new outlook I now have for my projects. Now in my graduate role at Mott Macdonald, I have the chance to use this gained knowledge and apply it to a wide range of high-profile projects whilst further developing my skills in electrical building services. I look forward to the new challenges it will present me.
