About Gemechis Elias

Born and raised in rural town located 450 KM away from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, I have experienced firsthand the challenges of growing up and learning in schools with limited computer infrastructure and internet connectivity. However, it was these struggles that fueled my determination to overcome obstacles and pursue my passion for programming. With a passion for programming that started during my high school years, and through a combination of innate talent and self-taught skills, I have developed a knack for solving problems in innovative ways. I thrive in challenging environments that push me to stretch my problem-solving skills and learn from others. I am always eager to take on new challenges and tackle difficult projects head-on. Throughout my academic year, I have been leading the Google Developers students club at my college, founded a developer's team, and developed students' productivity apps and social platforms within the campus. At A2SV, a nonprofit academy committed to nurturing Africa's tech talent, I have been learning data structures and algorithms track, taking in-person education and mentoring sessions. Through hands-on training, I have been mastering the art of software development, preparing myself for success in competitive job interviews. When I am not coding, I enjoy playing the piano and have a special affinity for Ethiopian music scales. My love for music is just one example of my ability to balance and excel in multiple areas of interest. Overall, I am a driven and dedicated individual with a strong commitment to achieving my goals. I am eager to contribute my skills and talents to a dynamic team and make a meaningful impact in the field of software engineering. Achievements: 1st Place Winner in National Hackathon (Visit Oromia Hackathon 2023), winning an Award of ETB and an Exciting Trip to Kenya Sponsored by Safaricom Ethiopia PLC. 2nd Place Winner in the Annual Innovation Competition at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University for Developing a Student' Productivity and Social Media app with currently over users within the campus. Founded and led student community clubs at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. Developed and hosted various commercial websites for local companies (check out horansoftware.com).
