About Gemma Kerr

Gemma is a director and theatre-maker working across the UK. She trained on the MFA Theatre Directing at Birkbeck, University of London, and on the National Theatre Studio Directors Course. She has directed work in London and across the UK, including Southwark Playhouse, Theatre 503, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Derby Theatre and York Theatre Royal. She is an Associate Artist of Omnibus Clapham. She is a text-based director with extensive experience in new work and writing. She is passionate about classic and contemporary material. She loves work that plays with form and embraces immediacy and story-telling. She is co-Director of High Hearted Theatre which she runs with writer Marcelo Dos Santos. The company creates original work for non-conventional theatre spaces, with an emphasis on narrative and new writing. The shows explore the relationship between the performer, the audiences and the space in which the work happens. She is a Script Reader for the Royal Court Theatre London and she teaches and directs at drama schools including RADA, Identity Drama School, CityLit, and The Bridge Theatre Training Company. She also works as a freelance dramaturg and script editor.
