About Gena Buhler

With over 20 years experience in event production, venue management, operational logistics, festival and program development, and relationship-building for critical partnerships, I know what it takes to transform neighborhoods into vibrant arts communities. Drawing on my own experience of managing capital projects, I also understand the challenges of keeping a project moving while continuing to engage with audiences. I lead the Theatre Projects business development team in North America, identifying partners, developers, and projects that have the potential to enrich their communities, and will work with clients to match our services with their needs. I'm also a part of our strategic planning team, offering advice on early project visioning, planning, and feasibility for different types of event spaces and organizations. I joined Theatre Projects from Wheeler Opera House (City of Aspen, CO), where I was the executive and artistic director, responsible for producing and growing the Aspen Laugh Festival and the Aspen Mountain Film Festival, launching several community-based programming efforts, and managing Phase and Phase IV of Wheeler’s historic renovation projects. I have worked as the theatre director at Vilar Performing Arts Center (Vail Valley Foundation) in Beaver Creek (Vail, CO), worked in New York City as an agent for The Road Company and IMG Artists, and started my career in festival management as an associate with the Ann Arbor Summer Festival (MI). Equally as passionate about thought leadership and convening events that inspire dialogue, I co-founded and continue to act as director of operations for the Colorado Energy & Water Institute and previously spent five years as project director and producer for the Vail Global Energy Forum.
