About Genay Markham

I am a passionate professional with 15 years of experience in social justice. I have 12 years of leadership development experience, 10 years of youth development, 9 years of recruitment, 8 years of family engagement, 6 years of event planning, 4 years of diversity, equity and inclusion work, and 3 years of management and civic engagement experience. I am passionate about community voice, leadership development, environmental justice, equitable transportation, and affordable housing. I believe that the experiences of those who are underrepresented should inform policies to create lasting positive change. I am committed to continuously learning more about policy, protecting the environment, effective methods to fight for equity for historically disenfranchised communities (BIPOC), opportunities to create and enhance programs and trainings that benefit low income, people of color, women, people with disabilities and youth. Some Career Highlights- Experience developing and maintaining national and regional partnerships. For example, I helped coordinate a campaign that reached over 300 youth in Arizona, California and Colorado for Red Ribbon Week. I have worked with several organizations that are located in various states such as; Minnesota, Washington, Tennessee, Texas and several counties in Bay Area- Managed 2 affordable housing resource centers providing direct services to low-income families - Led leadership development trainings on regionalism, land-use, housing, transportation, interpersonal skills, poetry, public speaking, racial justice, board/commission skills, and social justice - Led youth workshops on speech preparation, cooking, environmental justice, culture and health - Started a literacy program called Children's Harmony Independent Reading Program (CHIRPS) providing free books and tutors for low-income families living in affordable housing in Davis, CA- Racial Justice and Police Conduct Taskforce work resulted in mentorship program at TNDC and a racial justice speaker series - Completed a research project in Italy & Germany during Summer Abroad - Managed an alumni network of over 170 people - Former Glide Legacy Committee Member, helped with the Social Justice Film Fest
