About Gene Saunders

Served 33 years with the Chesapeake Virginia Police Dept in Patrol, Vice, Narcotics Detectives and Training, in line function and command of each of those units. Co-founded the Special Weapons and Tactics team in 1974 serving as Tactical Commander and Commander for 23 years over 800 operations. Served as Chief Investigator on several large multi state, international drug and organized crime conspiracy investigations. Shift Commander, Soccer venue, 1996 Olympic Games, Atlanta Georgia. Retired in 2001 as a Captain. Served in National Guard and State Defense Force in Infantry, Airborne and Ranger units in leadership and command positions. Served in US Air Force Aux.(Civil Air Patrol) as a Senior Squadron (Ranger) Commander and Commandant, Middle East Region Staff College for 5 years. Instructor in Pursuit & Emergency Driving, Firearms, Special Operations, Raid Planning General Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue. Founded Project Lifesaver, as a volunteer, in and overseen its' growth to over 1,400 public safety agencies in 48 states, 6 Provinces in Canada and 1 in Australia. Helicopter Flight Officer (volunteer) with the Virginia Beach Police Department for 4 years and several years of Skydiving. Recognized internationally as an expert and Father of radio tracking recovery of persons at risk. Authored a number of articles for magazines and publications concerning wandering and have appeared on numerous radio and television programs to include; CBS Early Show; Extreme Makeover Home Edition (2), Living the Life, Fox News, The Discovery Channel, CNN News, The Daily Buzz,and William Shatner's "Moving America Forward". Featured in a number of publications to include; Inside Business, Luminaries, Influential Leaders of America.Lead and supporting roles on TV series; The Prosecutors, The FBI Files, The New Detectives and Untold Stories of the Navy SEALS.
