Long term humanitarian practitioner and manager in field and headquarters. Experience in East and Central Africa over 15 years. This was followed by a decade working with US and UK governments as Head of Delegation for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Subsequently set up new department of ICRC Education and established ways for ICRC to further engage in education. Written about the unintended consequences of humanitarian assistance and many policy related themes. Lectured and taught in many countries and on the Faculty of University College, Dublin. Traveler over 30 years, hill walker and middle distance running are regular activities as is reading and listening to music. Particular interest in the margins and live on the WIld Atlantic Way off the west coast of Ireland. Currently Chair of the CDAC network which looks to empower local communities affected by emergencies to have a leading role in the determination of needs and management of crises.
