About Geoff Walton

I am Reader in Information and Digital Literacies, former Programme Leader (MA Library and Information Management) and International Link Tutor for the Gateway PhD Programme in partnership with San Jose State University. Previously a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader at Northumbria University. Co-I for the AHRC funded project Untold voices: NHS 75th Anniversary I recently completed the 'Unhealthy bias' project. As PI I Completed a project with an engineering company (Jeff Gosling Hand-Controls ). My team and I created an e-learning portal for the engineers that fit the hand-controls to domestic vehicles. I completed a project as PI for an ILG funded project on information literacy and well-being. I was also Co-I for a second completed ILG project, Investigating the Information Literacy of Scotland’s Teenagers to Inform Teaching Practice. I was PI for the British Academy/Leverhulme project on information discernment. I was work-package leader on the EU AMORES project (no longer a live link),#amoresproject (2 years in duration and awarded under the Comenius Multilateral strand, December 2013 - November 2015). I am Chair of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Information Literacy. I received my PhD (A new blended approach to fostering information literacy) on 17/7/09. I am also a chartered librarian with 34 years experience as an information professional in the voluntary, public and HE academic sectors. I am a SEDA accredited teacher in HE, a member of the HEA and have a certificate in e-learning. I teach at all HE levels from 4 to Pg in Digital Media and Communications including teaching skills for trainee information professionals. I have some knowledge of information literacy and e-learning theory especially in the areas of information discernment, online discourse and online peer assessment.
