About Geoffrey Barrows

I’ve been captivated by bio-inspired and neuromorphic computing since the early ’90s, when I first coded neural networks from scratch and later taught myself neuromorphic engineering from Carver Mead’s CalTech resources. In inspired by the flight behaviors of insects, I designed and flew a neuromorphic chip—possibly the first to ever do so. That early breakthrough set the foundation for a career dedicated to building lightweight, efficient vision systems that push the boundaries of perception in robotics and autonomous systems. Today, through my company, Centeye, we develop and deploy vision-based autonomy solutions that operate in environments where traditional cameras and AI fail. Our neuromorphic vision sensors, powered by our own “phylogenetic AI” algorithms, enable nano drones to navigate complex environments, avoid narrow obstacles, and fly through tight gaps—all in real time and at a fraction of the weight and power consumption of conventional systems. Beyond drones, we apply our expertise to challenging domains, from marsupial drone systems to embedded vision for smart textiles.
