About Geoffrey Bergen

I am a STEM educator with 15+ years of experience, currently serving as Director of STEM Programs and Strategic Engagement at the Virginia Space Flight Academy. There, I lead the development of the VASFA STEM Academy, an interactive program that engages hundreds of students in grades 2-8 each year. Now, I have the opportunity to oversee all our great STEM programming, including our iconic Space Adventure Camp while managing a team of STEM educators. As a NASA Endeavor Fellow and participant in Northrop Grumman's Weightless Flight of Discovery, I am passionate about advancing STEM education and building strategic partnerships. I also co-founded Almost Rocket Science, a podcast and blog that showcases STEM careers. One example of how I put my teaching ethos into practice was designing and launching a high-altitude balloon to capture the first-ever amateur 360-degree panoramic views from feet. This hands-on project embodies my belief in creating real-world, experiential learning opportunities that inspire students' curiosity and innovation. Additionally, I enjoy making wave-sliding vehicles and other creative woodworking projects as a hobby. I also am a seasonal fly fishing guide.
