About Geoffrey Loo

Thank god for legos! As decreed by my parents, I was not allowed to play video games for most of my childhood, and, as a result, my early years were spent rustling around through boxes of legos, making little imaginary worlds and stories. Now that I am grown up, all I really want to do is to keep the fun and creativity rolling, with my eyes set on animation and video games!( take that mom and dad!) While in college, I was part of the multimedia club, which was working on a game at the time. It was my first experience working with a large team. We were pulling people from the drama club to do voice acting, musicians on campus were helping us with scores; it was both a ton of work and fun with a lot of good people. Shortly thereafter, a much smaller group of us broke off and Mind Factory Studios was born. We developed a handful of games for IOS, starting with the early Iphone 3gs, which had some serious hardware limitations. In addition to doing art, I was also the primary designer on one of our published games (initial concept, level designs, etc). After launching this game, I decided to leave the startup and go back to school, attending the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, where I learned to make things pretty. I believe that, while making things look pretty is always great, a skilled environment artist can work with a team to inject the game’s design into the art in order to make a more rewarding and intuitive user experience. I enjoy tinkering with game design and, I love how my contributions, as an environment artist, affect both the thematic and game-play experiences of players.
