I currently work as an instructor at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, teaching ERH 101 & 102, the first-year composition sequence which focuses on thesis-driven expository writing and argument. In the classroom, I introduce students to basic concepts of rhetoric, critical thinking, and grammar, to prepare them for the kinds of writing that will be expected of them in both higher education and in the professional world. I teach students to read critically and to analyze texts so that they recognize the techniques used by authors to deliver messages to diverse audiences. I help students generate ideas through research and conversation. My duties include constructing syllabi, creating assignments, lecturing, conferencing with students, as well as tutoring, mentoring and working one-on-one with students in the VMI Writing Center.
