About George Berry

A passionate and enthusiastic person who loves a challenge and to work in a team environment. From a young I have had a love for team sports and working as a collective to get success. I have always played team sports most notably Rugby Union and Cricket. At school I was highly skilled in Vocational subjects. This triggered my love for Musical Theatre, which suited my enjoyment of working in a large team. This exposed me to Broadcast Journalism, using the skills I acquired studying Performing Arts culminating in me attending University of Gloucestershire to study Sports Journalism. My university experience brought with it a sense of belonging to my university and local community. At the end of my time I wanted to give something back, so I took the decision to run for Sports Officer so I could improve the life chances of students at UoG, both academically and vocationally. My success in year 1 lead to me being re-elected for a second term. My re-election was built on a foundation of significantly improving mental health provision at UoG and improving the delivery of all SU sport at UoGSU. Away from my studies and employment I have worked exceptionally hard to train as a professional Rugby Union Referee. I am now at level 6, which I have achieved in just 3 seasons, and have ambitions to reach the elite level in the coming years. Alongside my rugby union ambitions I am also in the early stages of the process to qualify as a Police Special Constable, an unpaid volunteer police person, as this is a career that plays to my strengths, values and skills as a team player.
