About George G.

I am a seasoned information scientist with experience of working in several different fields of biology and different types of data ranging from biomedical literature to patents. While formally trained as a biochemist and X-ray crystallographer, I have taken my experience working with crystallographic and mass spectrometry data sets into data curation and analytics. Through my work, I have developed my skills in the application of ontologies and taxonomies for data curation, visualisation. and analytics to build custom solutions for business customers that have long standing insights and FAIR data principles applied from the outset. This has given rise to my interests in generating knowledge graphs and graph databases in general so businesses can answer more complicated questions from multiple data sources that have been harmonized through standardized data models. I draw on all my experiences in the lab to provide both an expert opinion on several areas of biology and their associated techniques as well as the fundamental principles needed to learn new skills to solve new and complicated problems. Some of these areas have included: CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology, small molecule library screening, fragment-based drug discovery, assay development, mass spectrometry, and antibody characterization. In addition to my scientific skills, I have also engaged in scientific outreach and engagement. I have organized webinars, lectures, and courses for a wide variety of audiences. I am always looking for new challenges on how to apply my skills and teach others what I know.
