About George Okorie
George OKORIE (PhD) joined the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in January 2006 and is currently a Deputy Director in the Monetary Policy Department. He doubles as Special/Technical Adviser on Economic Policy to the Permanent Secretary Finance, Federal Ministry of Finance, having earlier worked in a similar role as Special Assistant to the Permanent Secretary Finance on Economic Matters at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning. He went on Secondment to the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), Accra Ghana as an Economist, and served in the Financial Integration Department, where he supported the work in the Secretariat of the College of Supervisors of the West African Monetary Zone (CS-WAMZ), including participating in Multilateral Surveillance Missions in the WAMZ Member States.At the CBN, he headed the Fiscal Developments and Debt Analysis Office in the Monetary Programing Division. He currently heads the Multilateral, Bilateral and Regional Institutions Office in the International Economic Relations Division. He had earlier worked in the Capital and Other Markets Office of the Financial Markets Division, as well as the Meeting Coordination Office of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Secretariat. Prior to joining the CBN, Dr Okorie worked at the British Council Nigeria as Centre Manager Abuja and led its Information and Learning Center and Education UK Partnerships programme. He also attended an attachment programme at the British Council Singapore. Earlier, he was a Lecturer in Economics at the Delta State University (Lagos Center) Abraka. Dr Okorie holds an MSc in Economics and an MSc in Quantitative Development Economics from the Universities of Ibadan, Ibadan and Warwick, Coventry, respectively. This is in addition to a BSc (Hons) in Economics and a PhD in Economics (Development Economics) from Abia State University, Uturu.He earned Executive Education Certificates in Leadership; and Public Policy from the University of Oxford's Said Business School and Blavatnik School of Government, respectively. He holds memberships of the Nigerian Economic Society and Nigerian Statistical Association, including recipient of the UK's Department for International Development Shared Scholarship Scheme. He has attended national and international conferences, including the IMF/World Bank Spring and Annual Meetings, G20 & G24, African Caucus, UN COP 27, Afreximbank AAM, Education UK Partnerships, NES, NESG, Financial Inclusion, and WAMZ Convergence Council Meetings; including trainings by the IMF, BIS, BoE, and WAIFEM.
