About George Polus

Born in a migrant family, I always wished to be given the opportunity to do the extracurricular activities my friends have always been involved with but the factoring of cost and commuting as a child wasn’t possible for my family. During family gathers, I’d always bring a ball and with my cousins – I would always setup a little game of soccer or hit shuttlecocks off my badminton racquet to keep myself busy with having fun. In school, I always participated in gym class or recess games to make up for the time I couldn’t be put in after-school programs or taken to a recreation center. Growing up now, I found myself getting together with family and friends at recreation centers for leisure swimming times or just using their facilities to play sports.My first ever job was working at Canada’s Wonderland as an Admissions Associate which helped me as a young teenager learn different skill sets surrounding the customer service industry. I always found myself to be the person-to-person communication type because it shares the true connection of serving your community.Previously worked as a Customer Service Representative for the City of Brampton at Chinguacousy Park, working to provide customer service excellence to those who chose to visit our location or phone our location for assistance. Recently, they have transitioned to new software, PerfectMind. This allows the community to connect with our services electronically and serve themselves but could contact us for assistance if they wish to speak with us.With the part-time jobs I’ve been lucky to obtain in my life; I’ve learned many important skills that advanced my customer service & communication skills which allow me to better serve my community as guests. I often refer to our visitors as guests because I like to ensure they feel welcomed and receive the hospitality they expect from our organization whereas customer refers to a transaction for a product.Through the midst of my college course in Recreation & Leisure Services, I moved to Windsor, Ontario but I was also fortunate enough to secure an internship with the Town of LaSalle for the final semester of my graduating year. Throughout my internship, the town switched to use ActiveNet which helped me learn the program.
