About George Wharton

I joined LSE in 2018 after almost 10 years in the Civil Service and the NHS. Here I co-direct an MSc programme, teach and supervise MSc students in health policy, financing and management. I help to initiate and manage projects and partnerships with public, private, and third-sector bodies that address health system challenges, at country level and internationally, including the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR). Our approach combines practical policy expertise with academic rigour and principles. I am also a regular contributor to publications on subjects across global health, health policy and economics, and digital health. In addition to my role at LSE, I’m a Board Trustee at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at the NHS Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, and am on the editorial board of the British Journal of Healthcare Management. I am passionate about improving public policy and management, and building sustainable health systems that provide equal access to high quality care for equal need, regardless of ability to pay.
