About Georgina Holmes

I research into the politics of organisational change in International Organisations; Norm implementation and practice change in militaries engaged in peacekeeping; the gendered politics of training and deploying male and female military peacekeepers, and the engagement of small and middle powers in international security governance, focusing on Rwanda, Ghana and the UK. I am an Advisor on Women, Peace and Security for the British Army's training team. I am also a co-founder and current co-Chair of the BISA Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Working Group; an Associate chair of the Africa Research Group in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, and Co-Lead for the Gender Cluster of the West African Peace and Security Network. In 2020, I joined the editorial team of 'Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal', the official journal of the International Association for Genocide Studies. I completed an ESRC funded MA in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (Conflict, Security and Development) at the University of Warwick in 2002 before undertaking a PhD in International Relations at SOAS, University of London. Prior to completing my PhD, I spent over 10 years working in strategic/organisational change communications, including five years in the British government. I have expertise in delivering communications to support national organisational change, as well as staff engagement and external stakeholder engagement programmes, and have experience establishing strategic level crisis management communications processes. This practical experience informs my theoretical work. I have held teaching positions at the University of Warwick, SOAS, Royal Holloway, University of London and the National University of Rwanda, and have lectured in International Relations at the University of Portsmouth, the University of Reading, Imperial College London and The Open University.
