About Gerard Terradas

Currently: Senior Team Lead at Biocentis. I first graduated in Biotechnology from University of Barcelona, then mastered in Virology (specialized in HIV), where I got extensive training in cellular and viral cultures. Moved to Monash University with a Dean's Scholarship in 2013, where I joined the McGraw Lab as a PhD student to use Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes to study host-virus interactions and elicit the genetic basis of Wolbachia-conferred dengue protection. During my PhD (2013-2017), I also taught in the Department of Genetics of Monash University. 2017-2020 I held a postdoctoral researcher position at UCSD (Bier Lab). Academic research focused on improving CRISPR-based gene drive technologies in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and Anopheles species as means of potential population replacement and control of vector-borne diseases in underdeveloped areas of the world. My current position enables me to focus on my research, where I mainly perform virology and insect transgenesis work. Work has also allowed me to teach and supervise (under-)graduate students and research assistants in different techniques and research areas.
