Software engineering leader experienced at building and managing global teams responsible for all aspects of software development. I am passionate about continuous improvement of the customer experience employing Lean, Agile and DevOps methodologies. I therefore tend to gravitate towards QA and Release Management roles. I ensure collaboration and short feedback loops between developers, ops, support and customers, driving continuous improvement of products and processes. I've built teams in Dublin, Prague, California and Bangalore, managing up to 60 software engineers and program managers worldwide. I hire the best people I can and grow and retain them. Many team members have worked with me for 10-15 years, growing from grads to lead engineers and senior managers. Indeed, several have followed me from company to company. My philosophy is simple: happy customers are more likely to be repeat customers. The goal I set each member of my team is to "improve our customers' experience in any way you can". RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS:* Overhauled NuoDB's global QA and Release Engineering teams, building a new and highly capable geo-dispersed QA team (Dublin, London, Zagreb). Reduced release candidate test case fails by >80%. My key quality metric is the ratio of bugs found by QA to bugs missed by QA and found by customers. The QA team have consistently hit a ratio of 4:1 over the past year.* Implemented DevOps and Lean methodologies in SG Digital as the company pivots from a bespoke T&M development model to a product model and expands into new markets. Introduced operational metrics, dashboards and reviews with each product/dev team, driving continuous improvement of our customers' experience.* Led the development of the SuperCluster engineered system providing cloud-in-a-rack IaaS, PaaS and DBaaS with revenues of $1bn+ in its first 6 years. Leveraged knowledge of technologies and configuration best practice to develop robust, secure, maintainable infrastructure-as-code.* Designed process simplifications and led the development of CI/CD automation and dashboards to manage the build, QA and release of products such as the Solaris operating system.* Led the release management of 37 Solaris Updates and the QA for over Solaris patches.* Partnered cross-org to research, negotiate, design, and lead the development of common processes and tools to merge the code bases of two major Sun Microsystems software products, simplifying processes and improving quality.
