About Geske Dijkstra

I am a development economist with almost 30 years of experience in teaching, research and advisory work. I carried out studies and consultancies for the Policy and Operations Evaluation Department of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), for the World Bank and for the Inter-American Development Bank, among other agencies. In research, I am particularly interested in the influence of public policies on development. My publications include eight books and many articles in international refereed journals, including World Development, Development and Change, Feminist Economics and Development Policy Review. My main topics of interest include: • Global governance and development, or the impact of international economic and financial relations and of international institutions on development; • Aid effectiveness, with particular attention for macroeconomic and institutional effects of aid, and the effectiveness of policy conditionality; • The influence of governance and policies of developing countries on economic growth and poverty reduction • Gender equality and development By region, by research mainly focuses on Latin America and Sub Saharan Africa.
