About Giancarlo Rizza

Expert in 4D Printing & Bridging Science, Arts & Society About – Science and 4D Printing I am a Research Director at CEA, based at the Laboratoire des Solides Irradiés (École Polytechnique, Institut Polytechnique de Paris). My research focuses on 4D printing of smart nanocomposite materials, with a dual objective: • introducing multifunctional and multimodal capabilities in stimuli-responsive printed components, • integrating micro- and nano-structuration directly during the printing process. I am also a senior CEA expert in Additive Manufacturing, and I serve on the steering committee of the French National Research Group (GdR) TRANS4M on Smart and Transformable Materials through 4D Printing:@https://gdr-trans4m.utbm.fr/ In addition, I am Topic Editor for the journal About – Bridging Science, Arts & Society Beyond research, I am committed to renewing the connections between science and society by creating original formats for public engagement and pedagogical innovation. I imaged and produced the participatory project Nanorumeurs, exploring the limits of scientific communication I am also part of the steering committee of the Useful Fictions Arts & Sciences Summer School I have collaborated with C’Nano, the Chaire Arts & Sciences, ENSAD, École Estienne, Ruedi and Vera Baur, Théâtre de la Ville, and Région Past Expériences • Founder and Director of CimeX (Interdisciplinary Microscopy Center, École Polytechnique) for 10 years. In this role, I led the Nan’eau project (recognized as strategic by Paris-Saclay University), developing a multi-correlative microscopy platform combining optical, electronic, and X-ray techniques. • Collaborations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). • Member of the steering committees of: o the international conference Radiation Effects in Insulators (REI), o the French research network GdR NACRE, o the Chaire Arts & Sciences (École Polytechnique, ENSAD, PSL, Daniel & Nina Carasso Foundation). In addition, I teach part-time at ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) in the Research and Creation module, focusing on 3D/4D printing.
